I love nothing more than a beautiful cookery book filled with delicious recipes and food photography. I could honesty swoon over them for hours and have to make a conscious effort not to buy every single one. Recently though I did purchase Jamie Oliver’s 5 Ingredients book. Although I haven’t cooked anything from it yet as I am following The Body Coach 90 Day SSS Plan I have so many pages bookmarked ready for when I can make my own recipes. Anyway, I recently went to Jamie’s Italian restaurant to try out their new Quick and Easy menu which uses recipes that are featured in Jamie’s new book. There is a lunch and a dinner menu so we went along after work one evening to try the dinner menu. I put the plan slightly on hold for the evening and went to see what they had to offer.
Essentially you can choose a starter and a main course all for just £15.95. You can then also add a dessert for £3 if you’ve feeling hungry / have a sweet tooth and always extra room for pudding! I really struggled choosing which dishes to go for. Every single dish appealed to me to be honest! I settled for the Prosciutto and Celeriac for starter as I fancied something light. Tom went for the Truffle Tagliatelle. Both were served on these beautiful modern plates. The kind you wish you could take home with you! They were also absolutely delicious. I only recently discovered celeriac and this was my first time trying it with prosciutto but they were a lovely pairing. Tom’s tagliatelle was divine. Truffle used well is one of my favourite ingredients and this really was done well. The truffle was strong enough to really taste but not overpowering.
For my main I went for the Rose Pesto Prawn Pasta. I love seafood pasta so much so was super excited to try this out. I have had such a range of seafood pastas ranging from the bland and boring to extremely tasty and more-ish. Thankfully this dish fell into the later category, it really was very good! The portion also was very modest so you had just enough food but I wasn’t left feeling too full. I love it when restaurants really concentrate on quality over quantity so this was a huge thumbs up for me. Tom chose the Golden Pork Escalope. It was served with cherry tomatoes and feta cheese making it a lovely Mediterranean style dish.
Following these courses we were craving something sweet so of course tried some dessert. Their ice cream list is one of the best I’ve seen in a restaurant! Literally the flavours are out of this world. I went for dark chocolate, natural fat free yogurt and lemon sorbet topped with honeycomb drops and praline. You can pick three flavours and two toppings from a heavenly list. Tom went for the Epic Chocolate Brownie which did exactly what it says on the tin. It was just a simple, gooey, chocolatey and delicious brownie with praline & chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. What more could you want?!
We visited the Manchester Jamie’s Italian which really is a stunning venue. It is a grade II listed building and actually used to be a bank back in the day so the grand high ceilings and majestic pillars and original features make it an impressive dining location.
I’m more excited than ever now to get cooking from my 5 Ingredients cook book so that I can recreate some of these dishes myself along with the others that I wanted to try. We had a great evening at Jamie’s Italian and I would really recommend it.
