2016… goals, life and more!

Slippers, new year, resolutions, 2016

Happy New Year! Hello 2016!

I wanted to write about my New Year’s Resolutions. I don’t really believe in the whole ‘New Year New Me’ thing because you can’t just change who you are and how you live your life over night. Also, it is very negative to start the New Year with a long list of ways in which you want to be different. I do think though, that it is a good time to reflect on your life, your beliefs and your goals and think about what you want to achieve in 2016.

Here are my goals for 2016:

  • Make a huge effort to stay in touch with friends from university, 6th form, high school etc. I think this is such an important goal not just for this year but for life. I am at a point where I have moved away from university and a lot of the friends that I made whilst I was in Leeds. There are also some very close friends from before university who are so important to me. Everyone is scattered around the country and with life being so incredibly busy and fast paced it can be difficult to regularly see people and catch up. Last year, one of my biggest realisations was that the most important thing in the whole universe is the people with whom you share it with. There are so many amazing people that I have incredible memories and connections with and I want to ensure that I do manage to see them and stay in close contact with them.
  • Create a capsule wardrobe: I was very inspired after watching Anna’s vlog about the concept of capsule wardrobes. We all have clothes lying around that we don’t ever wear but we just can’t quite let go of. A decluttered, smaller, yet more efficient wardrobe is a great way to create more space, save money and feel more organised. It can be easy to feel a little out of control when you buy new clothes. They aren’t cheap, just a few items can dig deep into your bank balance and the burden of financial anxieties can be really stressful. I really do believe that having a capsule wardrobe not only will help me save money and stop buying useless pieces of clothing but that it can also bring a lot of mental clarity. Being in control of your wardrobe and the clothes you have in it by limitation will in fact be very liberating.
  • Travel and explore: Perhaps a little cliche and this has always been a huge goal of mine but I want to make sure that I do still see a lot of the world even though I now have a full time job and much less holiday time to do these things
  • Enjoy every single moment: Again, this might sound cliche but it is one concept that I have tried to live by over the past few months. Life is not about waiting for friday, for the weekend, for a holiday, for losing 6 pounds etc. but life is about every single moment. It is these moments that weave together and create who we are. It is so easy to get caught up waiting for a time in the future, ‘counting down the days’ for something to happen when in fact I want to enjoy each and every moment. There is so much to gain from the everyday, and I think living like this means that you don’t take things for granted as much.

You never know when circumstances will change so enjoy your life as it is now. Focus on the good and take contentment from the knowledge that the bad won’t be there for ever. Just as the good will change as will the bad. Do not let the amazing details of the present day pass you by un noticed.

There are just a few thoughts from me and how I would like to live my life in 2016.

I hope you all have an amazing year full of love, happiness and health.

I loved reading this post Sarah! I totally agree with you about living in the moment – you never know when life could turn upside down so appreciating everything right now is always a worthy way of spending your time 🙂

Great goals! I keep toying with the idea of a capsule wardrobe myself… but I think I love too many different styles to commit! I hope you get a chance to travel more often! 😀

Yeah that is true, it does limit the amount of different styles you can wear. Thank you! I hope so too 😀 xxx

So many lovely ideas here. I too am guilty of counting down the days, I need to start living in the now a little bit more. I could easily be a lady of leisure if I am completely honest! Haha!

Travelling/exploring sounds like a very good idea to me – and not only because it means brilliant travel diaries for me to read on your blog 😉 haha!

happy new year lovely! i’m totally in the same boat as you when it comes to having time off work to see more of the world, it’s becoming more difficult to squeeze it in. best of luck with your goals for this year, particularly the capsule wardrobe. i’m finding it much harder than anticipated! x
